Much of our work goes into
building maps and drawings in a CAD environment, for the most part
intangible. Upon completion of such projects, many
clients want to go further than getting "file prints".
Municipalities especially want wall maps to complete the steps
customary to updating municipal maps. Our Mounting, laminating and
framing services address those products. Wall maps provide the
viewer with much information about a municipality. The CAD
preprinting selections allow us to incorporate as much, or a little,
of the file information desired. Generally the streets, property
lines and water features are considered standard base map
information. From that point, the customer may want to add zoning
designations, voter districts, utility information or parcel I.D.
numbers in a combination they desire. Below you can see how the
Village of Kohler incorporated a large wall map into the setting of
their Board Room.

Over the years we have used
many methods to adhere large maps to a variety of backings. Today
we have standardized that portion (mounting) by using "Printmount"
and "Gator Board". This combination provides presentation quality
and light weight results. Other special order options that have
been used for customized purposes are sheet metal (for magnetic
applications), flexible plastics for graphics that need to curve or
bend.
The final touch we make to a
mounted item can be framing. TAC has many colors to choose from and
all are of high quality aluminum Nielsen Frames. The finished product will have
either a tempered glass front or a satin laminate instead of glass.
We also have laminating
capabilities and will provide this alternative to glass for
protecting graphics. Single sided or double sided
(encapsulating) laminating is another service this department can
handle. This type of laminating is done on items that do not
have a rigid or thick backing. The reason the customer may do
this type of laminating is so the item can be rolled up for easy
transport to meetings or presentations. Encapsulating old
drawings for preservation purposes is very popular and makes the
repaired drawing easy to put back into flat files without
significantly affecting the amount of drawer space needed.
